Abstract
The case of a 61-year-old man with a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia with five hospitalizations in the National Mental Health Hospital, in Costa Rica, due to a behavior pattern of social aggressiveness, isolation and escape from nursing homes is presented. The patient lives in a long-term residence where multidisciplinary care is provided. This clinical case report seeks to demonstrate the benefits of performing a multisensory stimulation intervention in a SNZ-type room by an interdisciplinary team. At the end of the intervention, the patient demonstrated adherence to the intervention with decreased anxiety, regulation of hostile behavior towards other people in the residence and increased socialization with the interdisciplinary team and presented greater capacity in the waiting time for the development of activities of daily living in the residence, in addition to improvement in body posture, gait and balance.
